You know what you want. You can see it. Feel it. Taste it. Smell it.
You’re even visualizing it on your way to work. It’s feeling good and your excited about what’s ahead for you, because you think about it all the time. A lot. You talk about it, expect it to come, because you are focused, focused, focused. And if things get ugly in the day, you’ll step out of reality, close your eyes and see yourself in that perfect place of living your desires.
Then your catapulted back into the moment, perhaps not so gracefully, and the deep breath implies…. here we go again.
For most, there’s a constant cycle of wanting and not having. Craving, but still not showing up. Reaching and grasping a few crumbs.
Then the ever protective and nervous Ms. Doubt shows up. She says, “Doesn’t the universe know by now what I want? I’m easy to get to; address is listed in the yellow pages. I’m pretty emphatic and clear, couldn’t scream it any louder! If it’s not here, maybe I’m not worthy of having it.”
Anais Nin spoke wisdom in “You don’t find love, love finds you”. This is great advice when you’re in the deep in the wanting phase, because sometimes, the want gets in the way of the having.
You can’t want something and have it at the same time.
You can want something so badly that you are addicted to wanting it. Which means, you may never actually let yourself experience it. You can be visualizing it so much that when it shows up in front of you, you miss it, because you forget how to be in the present moment.
Give yourself a week to just experience being ok with your now. Send your message out to the universe in whatever way you like and then let it go. Stop visualizing and just be. Notice the color of the walls at your favorite coffee shop, take the scenic route even if it’s longer, wear that new dress today, write the e-mail you meant to send last month, listen to the birds that sing to you at sunrise. Find new ways to appreciate your now and focus less on what you want.
By wanting less you can experience having more.
And when you feel your ‘more’ in the moment, your dreams manifest before your eyes.

Thanks for this Padma. This is just what I needed to hear as I’m caught up in a lot of “I want” or “I ‘need’” right now, which is getting me further into debt! I want a new patio set; I need new aero wheels for my triathlon bike; etc…But none of this I “need”…I have ALL I need and more. So this is a good reminder and I’ll try your test for a week to just focus on what I have…
Miss you!
